The three must have ingredients to any read worthy book and The New Rule has them all plus more!Around this time last year I was in the mood for a sweet romance that I could read on my beach vacation. I have a Kindle full of books that fit the bill but instead of picking a random book I posted a question to our Facebook page asking for recommendations. It was through that post that I was introduced to new author A.C Netzel and her book The Casual Rule. I liked the sound of the blurb and the fact that the author was a fellow Jersey Girl just solidified the deal. I started reading the book while lazing on the beach and quickly fell in love. The story, the writing, the characters. It was all so perfect! Since that time I have gushed and gushed about this author and recommended The Casual Rule to my many friends and readers. When The New Rule was released just a few weeks ago I was extremely excited and so happy that I can now gush over this new book!Everything that made me originally falling in love is back again - the sexual innuendos, the endearing yet crazy supporting characters, Julia's large Italian family that is so reminiscent of my own, and finally a story that will leave you with that silly happy feeling in your belly.The New Rule is the continuation of Julia and Ben's story. What started off as a 'casual' relationship between the two has now moved to a committed relationship that comes complete with all of the real world challenges couples face. Ben is dealing with the pressures of work and family while Julia is dealing with her own insecurities. When it all becomes too much and Ben begins to pull away it is up to Julia to decide if she has it in her to ride the wave and pull Ben back in or let him go.AC Netzel is a hidden talent just waiting to be discovered. The New Rule was emotional and heartwarming and all of those other words that are used to describe something good. She has some of the most fun and witty dialogue between characters that I have read not to mention the seriously HOT sex. Oh! There is also an adorable bonus chapter at the end too!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Ride the wave-a great trip all the way to the shore!By BGAC Netzl's new book A New Rule is a fast paced powerfully emotional story continuing the story of Ben and Julia from the Casual Rule.Ben and Julia navigate the transition from "casual" relationship to that of a committed relationship filled with all the highs and lows and the intrusion of real life events. Julia's Mom Rose gives Julia great advice about relationships: “Life’s challenges are like the tide, they ebb and flow. You just have to stay the course.” And she also says ride the wave for both the good and the bad. The story starts so hot and steamy that is had me hooked. ( I wanted to ride that wave !) The love affair between the couple is intense and absolutely swoonworthy. As the stresses of work, family events, and social commitments enter in the story takes a dramatic turn that is both sad and heartbreaking. (The wave that absolutely crashes to the shore and leads to a big wipe out) Ben and Julia learn that they can only be a successful couple if they learn communicate and hence the New Rule. As always AC delivers a very happily ever after.I love Netzl's style of writing. She takes many common events in life and expounds on them in the most hilarious of ways. I think one of my favorite scene's is when Julia is sitting next to Stuart (Ben's brother in law) who is wearing a too short swim suit and well she sees way too much. Without revealing too many spoilers her handling of grief and it's many faces and way families handle is so well done!I love all the support characers-Julia's boss Vivien who is full of good advise disguised as work, Julia's roommate who is a true friend, and of course Julia's great famiy!The only negative thing I can say about the book is I feel there are a few loose ends I would like tied up but since this is Book 2 I can hope there is a book 3 and all my questions will be answered!I read this book is one night-I had to know what happened. So grab a blanket and sit in the park or at the beach and enjoy. I needed more Ben and Julia. Thankfully, THE NEW RULE was there and I one-clicked that book quickly.THE NEW RULE picks up a few months after the end of THE CASUAL RULE. Ben and Julia are now in a committed relationship. The "I love you's" have been said and they are building something solid together. They're still sarcastic, snarky, funny and smoking hot together, but you can tell there is something a bit more to their relationship. And as this second story unfolds, we soon learn that despite how far they've come in their relationship, there are still more bumps to overcome.When Ben's world is turned upside down, Julia is tested and so is their love for one another. There was never a time that I questioned how either of these characters felt for the other (they might have, but I didn't waver), but they had to figure out how to work through uncertainty in life and still make their relationship work. Neither of them handled things very well, but they realized what was important to them and just how important they were to each other.I adored this story, even if there were times when I felt I was being ripped apart just like the characters. It was beautifully crafted, with witty characters, dialogue and perfectly balanced emotional angst. I truly hated getting to the last page because I didn't want to be without these characters. According to Goodreads, a third book is anticipated so I'm hoping we get a final installment for Ben and Julia with their final HEA. So I'll anxiously wait for the next book, and re-read the first 2 books a few dozen times until we get more.See all 38 customer reviews...
