That group includes Emily, a travel escort for a group of senior citizens, and her grandmother Nana. Along the way Emily's former husband Jack....now a rather glamorous Jackie with feminine appeal, adds some color to the tour! That's just 3 of the characters. The tour group is also taunted/tainted with the mean mouthed and somewhat vengeful classmates celebrating their 50th high school class reunion from Bangor, Maine. There are many characters to keep track of; however, that number is lessened when 3 of them are killed.....not at the same time. Is it accidental or murder The Iowa contingency is made up of some really modern day texting geniuses who are all around 80 years young. These rather senior youngsters could compete with high school kids and their Smartphones any old day. The "old folks" do know how to keep Emily on her toes. They get accidentally stoned on desserts laced with...... Then there is the rather eventful trip to the Red Light District. The characters are rather feisty, full of spunk and ready for adventures that might make your eyes pop! Dutch Me Deadly provides easy and entertaining reading. For those that think the book is about a bunch of boring oldsters on a group tour.....well, these guys and girls do not fit into that category at all. The length of the book could have been somewhat shorter because it seems to suffer from a slight case of verbal excess.I understand this is one of a series with many of the same characters. This is the first of the series that I have read; therefore, I am a bit out of sync. In my opinion, this book stands alone and does not need to be read in order published.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Never been so happy I spotted a windmillBy SophieticaMy first 5* review, and to think I only picked it up because I'm Dutch - thank goodness I spotted the windmill or I would have missed it!Although the book is the 7th in the series, it's the first I've read. It works as a stand-alone book as there's plenty of information to give you a good idea of the characters' stories and backgrounds. This book is driven by the characters and by the plot - both are larger than life and somewhat over-the-top...but it works. This is not a hard-boiled detective story, nor is it weighed down by practical issues such as forensics. If those (Ed McBain, Chandler, CSI etc) are your thing you probably won't enjoy this. If you like more casual, funny detectives like Kinsey Millhone (Sue Grafton) and Kate Brannigan (Val McDermid), then this is right up your street. It's a hugely enjoyable book: I developed affection for the group of travellers and will have to go back and read more about them!P.S. And as for the reason I picked it up: there aren't any major flaws in the portrayal of the Netherlands (although I did find the 'der' and 'die' in the speech a bit annoying after a while). The 180+ question form is NOT one of the things that was actually over-the-top in the book...it's unfortunately realistic.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.Laughter in Amsterdam As the Bodies DropBy J L RigodTour guide Emily Miceli returns to us with her dozen senior citizens in exciting Amsterdam, Holland. As per usual her group only takes up a bit of the bus, so they are joining a reunion group from Bangor, Maine.As you will remember, this series is filled with laughter and bodies and this latest novel doesn't disappoint in the least.Added to the reality of time passing is our beloved seniors discovering the art of 'texting.' It is Emily who needs to step up and join the 21st Century! When the hated Tour Bus Guide, Charlotte is run over by a bicycle at the first stop...you know we are truly back.I also love the glimpses into history, such as Anne Frank's house and the description of the Red Light District, where alas our Seniors lose themselves in.
